When one tugs at a single thing in nature, you find it attached to the rest of the world.

- John Muir, Conservationist

Colleen Maier (1959–2023) lived a life full of curiosity, kindness, and a deep love for the natural world. She cherished travel, photography, biking, gardening, music, reading, and time with her friends, and she approached life with an open heart and a generous spirit.

The Colleen Maier Legacy Internship Fund, established by her husband, Gerhard, honours her memory by supporting the next generation of wildlife hospital interns, those who, like Colleen, are passionate about caring for animals and protecting our natural world. In each of our interns there is a spirit of excitement and adventure, two things that resonated within Colleen. Through this fund, her legacy lives on, inspiring hands-on learning, compassion, and stewardship of wildlife for years to come.

Friends and supporters are invited to contribute to this fund at any time of the year, helping us provide meaningful experiences for our interns. Donated funds will go directly to the intern program, funding housing, uniforms, special events, and honoraria. Charitable tax receipts are available for all donations over $10. Click here to give.

“There are only two days in the year that nothing can be done. One is called yesterday and the other is called tomorrow, so today is the right day to love, believe, do, and mostly live.”
